BOARD OF EDUCATION MONITORING RESPONSIBILITY
POLICY
Monitoring is a vital Board of Education function. Monitoring and oversight are used interchangeably. Monitoring/oversight is the process of systematically assessing the implementation of the Board's policies, standards and programs by the Department of Education and the Hawaii State Public Library System. The assessment is done through the review of pertinent data including those which may be provided, upon Board request, by the Superintendent of Education or State Librarian.
Oversight/monitoring must be conducted in a planned manner in order for the Board to exercise quality control. Monitoring will be scheduled for a year in advance and take place during the meetings of the Board Standing Committees. Information gathered by Board members through site visits and personal observations are useful for supplementing the reports provided by the Department of Education or the Hawaii State Public Library System. After its review of the data, a committee may make recommendations for appropriate action to the Board of Education.
