Historical note: This chapter implements Act 252, Session Laws of Hawaii 1997. Its aim is to assure that public service library staff make decisions regarding the selection of books and other materials that are circulated among customers of the state public library system while reserving procurement authority to the state librarian.

 

§8-201.2-1 Applicability. This chapter is applicable to the selection and acquisition of library resources, as defined in section 8-200.4-2. §8-201.2-2 REPEALED. [R 05/24/2010]

 

§8-201.2-3 Selection of library material. Public service library staff shall have the sole authority to select books and other resources to be purchased for the library to which they are assigned. The library manager shall have final overall authority to approve all selections of books and other resources made for the library. Selection decisions shall be made by public service library staff at such times and in such manner as the state librarian may determine and shall be in conformance with HSPLS’ collection development goals and policies. §8-201.2-4 Purchase and acquisition. The state librarian shall have the sole authority to initiate procurement actions and to enter into contracts for books and other resources to be purchased on behalf of the state public library system.
